Susan McArthur 2013

For more than 30 years, Susan McArthur has been an Instructor and former Chair of the Disability Resource Centre at Camosun College in Victoria, B.C.

Susan McArthur, known by many as ‘Sue’, has guided our Disability Resource Centre (DRC) team for a long time.  A lot of students and staff have walked through Sue’s door over the years, looking for guidance, for support, or often, just for a friendly person to chat with.  Sue’s door has always been open to everyone.  She greets people with an enthusiastic smile, a welcoming and positive attitude, and a personal commitment to help wherever she can.  Being in a leadership role is often a thankless job, filled with long hours and the need to balance competing perspectives on the spot in a fair way.  Sue has navigated the Disability Resource Centre through many stormy waters, and this certainly may not have been easy, or fun, at times.

But, you should never underestimate how much we all appreciated your stewardship and guidance over the years, Sue.  We are a diverse and eclectic group, but in many ways we are a close knit family.  You are an important part of this family, and have been for so many wonderful years.  You have created a culture where we all feel connected and supported, both to the students we serve but also to each other.  Your annual summer BBQ’s and Christmas parties, along with the occasional midweek group post-work gathering have certainly fostered a fun, close-knit place to work.  The end of this journey is concluding and we are all richer for sharing the ride along with you.  So from Beth, Brent, Eleanor, Jennifer, Lisa, Michael, Nancy, Nancy-Ellen, and Walter we say thank you so much for everything!  Congratulations to the Wall of Fame induction!
