Wendy Keenlyside
Wendy began her career in Disability Services at Douglas College in 1986 in the newly created position of Transition Planner. She completed her Masters in Behavioural Science in Counselling in 1993 and moved to the Disability Resource Centre at UBC as Liaison Officer. In 1995 she took on the role of Disability Services Manager at Langara College. During her career Wendy served as Chair of Articulation, Co-chair of the Disability Resource Network and on a number of Advisory Committees including CILS.
In 1997 Wendy had a truly life altering experience when she suffered a massive stroke. She was told she would never be 100% again and unable to multitask. As Wendy states, she truly learned the importance of being a strong self advocate through the whole rehabilitation process. In fact she was one of Maria Iaquinta’s subjects for her PhD when she completed her thesis on career choices and women with head injuries. Wendy retired from Langara in June 2005. Since her retirement, Wendy has worked part time as a Diversity Advisor – Disability at UBC.
